Lockdown, coronavirus, unemployment, bills and adulthood. These things might keep us awake at night, getting us all anxious and afraid of tomorrow. We are not getting any younger yet we are still stuck in mud, uncertain of the career path that will lead us to financial freedom and the "success" everyone is chasing after. Until now, the word "success" is still vague to me, a word that does not have a clear definition. People who have plethora of achievements under their belt advise that you have to find your passion. When you are aware where your passion lies, success will follow. Sounds pretty basic right?
While others envision a solid picture of how they see themselves a year from now, a small portion of the population does not even have a clue what they are existing for. I know how you feel, we are on the same page, buddy. It's like we are all hustling to get to a better place but we don't know where we are heading to. A race where the end goal is nonexistent.
Now, as if challenges aren't enough, a pandemic happened and everyone around the world is facing uncertainties and fear. It feels surreal, almost like a dreadful scene from a post-apocalyptic movie. How are we supposed to deal with something as frightening and fatal as this? This pandemic is not only killing people but it's killing our hope, our dreams and our future.
As I was pondering about these thoughts, one of our puppies entered the room and started wagging its tail. It went straight to its favorite spot, under the small corner table where dust and hair fall coexisted. The puppy sprawled out its legs sloppily, it looked so comfortable as it started to shut its eyes. I was fascinated to see our puppy's behavior amidst this chaos. To say that it was unbothered was an understatement.
Sudden realizations dawned me. There, under the table was a creature sleeping soundly, cozying up without a single worry about the economy, the pandemic, the unemployment rate, the meaning of life, the pursuit of happiness, the definition of success, the food for dinner, the bills and the shows to watch on Netflix. It was just there, existing and enjoying its nap time. Maybe, that was it, maybe that was the message from the Universe. The puppy came exactly at the time when doubts were getting the best of me, when dreams were getting shattered. It just came and lounged there, looking peaceful and showing its tiny pink paws, sleepy-eyed.
